C. DARKLY
C. Darkly writes Young Adult Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Adventure, and Horror stories. She has published articles about writing, short fiction stories, and currently has a screenplay and two novels in development. Her debut novel, Into the Darkness, is set in 1900 New York City about a gang of vampire boys and will be released in 2022. C. Darkly has been a guest on podcasts including Story Effect and The Story Grid. The Dark Rainbow is the universe where her stories come to life.
She graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Theatre and spent the next twenty years working in the film industry on hundreds of projects, including major motion pictures, commercials, documentaries, and music videos. Some of the more notable films include Boyhood, The Guardian, Varsity Blues, The Rookie, and the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
She was born in Austin, Texas, and has also lived in San Francisco, Maui, and a few different countries when a six-week adventure took her literally around the world.
These days she lives in Oklahoma City with her journalist and podcasting partner, Breena, and their scrappy chihuahua pup, Artemis.
She identifies as gender-fluid and is a proud member of the LGBTQIA community.
Her pronouns are She/Her/Uncle/DaDa.
The “Snuggles and Horror” genre was coined by Breena to describe C.Darkly’s stories where young protagonists you love face a terrifying world and you’d give them a big hug if you could (that’s where the snuggles come in).
LONGER BIO
I grew up a skinned-knee, tree-climbing tomboy in the small town of San Marcos, Texas where most of my childhood was spent racing bikes around the neighborhood, playing kickball with the boys, binge-watching movies, and dreaming up stories of my own.
Many years later, I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from Texas State University and went on to spend the next twenty years in the film industry working on music videos, documentaries, commercials, and feature films such as The Guardian, The Rookie, Varsity Blues, and Boyhood.
I’ve always loved magical worlds and when the Harry Potter series was released, the excitement to tell my own stories was reignited.
My stories fall under the Young Adult category and are cinematic and move at a fast-action pace. While I write in the Fantasy, Sci-fi, Adventure, and Horror genres, all my stories have a strong and inspiring protagonist who discovers their authentic truth while facing the most challenging situation of their lives.
Over the years I’ve lived in Austin, Texas, San Francisco, California, and Maui, Hawaii and feel most at home surrounded by warm turquoise water or indoors under a gray rainy sky.
Currently, my journalist and podcasting partner, Breena, and I live in Oklahoma City with our pup, Artemis.
